Not to mention the subsequent covenant family of God from all nations following the messiah. Basically, the book is foretelling the story of Jesus and Christendom.  But it's also heavy on the fire and brimstone, revealing through poem all the nasty stuff that will happen to the wicked. 

Important stuff to think about for kings and lords in the Middle Ages, but also pretty heady stuff for us right now facing evil all around, corruption, wicked cities, and the feeling that something profound is on the brink because of it.
