This is the first edition, early Knopf issue, distinguished by the New York imprint on the title page and the Borzoi blindstamp on the rear board. Although issued by Knopf, this printing was manufactured in Great Britain by Mackays Ltd., Chatham, a practice Knopf often used in the 1920s for certain academic titles.
